Overall picture of expressed Heat Shock Factors in Glycine max, Lotus japonicus and Medicago truncatula Genet. Mol. Biol.
Soares-Cavalcanti,Nina M.; Belarmino,Luís C; Kido,Ederson A.; Pandolfi,Valesca; Marcelino-Guimarães,Francismar C.; Rodrigues,Fabiana A.; Pereira,Gonçalo A.G.; Benko-Iseppon,Ana M..
Heat shock (HS) leads to the activation of molecular mechanisms, known as HS-response, that prevent damage and enhance survival under stress. Plants have a flexible and specialized network of Heat Shock Factors (HSFs), which are transcription factors that induce the expression of heat shock proteins. The present work aimed to identify and characterize the Glycine max HSF repertory in the Soybean Genome Project (GENOSOJA platform), comparing them with other legumes (Medicago truncatula and Lotus japonicus) in view of current knowledge of Arabidopsis thaliana. The HSF characterization in leguminous plants led to the identification of 25, 19 and 21 candidate ESTs in soybean, Lotus and Medicago, respectively. A search in the SuperSAGE libraries revealed 68...

One of the greatest problems in the elaboration of forestation programs using native species is the lack of knowledge about seedling production. This study aimed to evaluate the growth of Bauhinia forficate seedlings submitted to phosphorus levels. Eleven-day-old seedlings were transplanted to small tubettes (110 cm3) with pinus bark and vermiculite substratum base. The experiment was conducted in an entirely randomized delineation, with six P treatments: T0-control (substratum without P addition), T1-50, T2-100, T3-150, T4-200 and T5-250 mg dm-3, with five replications and 20 seedlings per replication. After 60 days, the seedlings presented a 98.2% survival rate and good root formation. The height varied in function of P levels, with maximum production up...

Physiological changes in Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth. seeds from different sources and submitted to abiotic stresses AGRIAMBI
Sousa,Eduardo C.; Silva,Daniel V.; Sousa,Danielle M. M.; Torres,Salvador B.; Oliveira,Renata R. T..
ABSTRACT Seed germination of species that develop in arid and semi-arid soils can be altered by water deficit and abundance of salts in the soil. Knowledge on tolerance limits is fundamental to understand the adaptive capacity of species under such conditions. The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological changes (germination and vigor) of Mimosa caesalpiniifolia seeds from different regions and submitted to water and saline stresses. To simulate water stress, the osmotic agent polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000) was adjusted to the potentials of 0, -0.2, -0.4, -0.6 and -0.8 MPa, whereas for the saline stress, NaCl solutions were adjusted to the potentials of 0, -0.1, -0.3, -0.5, -0.7; -0.9 and -1.1 MPa. The experimental design was completely...

Physiological quality evaluation of Piptadenia stipulacea (Benth.) Ducke seeds by tetrazolium test Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Pereira,Kleane Targino Oliveira; Paiva,Emanoela Pereira de; Souza Neta,Maria Lilia de; Benedito,Clarisse Pereira; Torres,Salvador Barros.
ABSTRACT The tetrazolium test is one of the promising alternatives to determine the viability of dormant, recalcitrant and slow-germinating seeds. The objective of this study was to adapt the tetrazolium test methodology to estimate the viability and vigor of Piptadenia stipulacea (Benth.) Ducke seeds. For this, a sample of seeds was classified into three sublots using round sieves, corresponding to six, five and four millimeters in diameter, respectively. Moisture content, imbibition curve, germination, emergence, germination and emergence speed indices, mean germination time and seedling emergence were initially evaluated. The second stage was conducted using a completely randomized experimental design, in 3 x 9 factorial scheme, corresponding to three...

Plant diversity and galling arthropod diversity searching for taxonomic patterns in an animal-plant interaction in the Neotropics Boletín de la Sociedad
de Souza Mendonça, Jr.,Milton.
Gall-inducers are a special guild of endophytic herbivores generating distinct structures known as galls. Gallers are species-specific, as the galls they induce: each gall morphotype is unique. The relationship between plants and gallers is close, and some of the hypotheses to explain galling diversity consider plants directly; others do not. Here I review current diversity hypotheses on galls and their hosts, adding ideas on the interpretation of galler host plant data. The example comes from an ongoing standardised inventory of galls and hosts in Rio Grande do Sul (RS) state, southern Brazil. The questions addressed here are whether: a) galls occur consistently on some plant taxa in different areas, b) these taxa are important for vegetation composition,...

Plant regeneration of natural tetraploid Trifolium  Hum pratense L Biol. Res.
ÇÖLGEÇEN,HATICE; TOKER,M CIHAT.
The regeneration of natural tetraploid T. pratense, originated from Erzurum-Turkey, is reported in this study. This plant has low seed setting and hard seed problems due to polyploidy. Hypocotyl, cotyledon, apical meristems, epicotyl and young primary leaves were inoculated on MS and PC-L2 media containing different concentrations of BAP and NAA as growth regulators. The best shoot formation has been observed on explants initiated from apical meristem placed on PC-L2 medium that includes 2 mg dm-3 BAP and 1 mg dm-3 NAA. 94.4% of the shoots originated from calli were rooted on PC-L2 medium with 1 mg dm-3 NAA. In vitro organogénesis has been accomplished in the natural tetraploid T. pratense regenerated plants successively transferred to the field

Produção e textura de feijão-vagem cultivado sob diferentes níveis de sombreamento Horticultura Brasileira
Souza,José Roberto P; Miglioranza,Edison; Brandão,Rosangela A.P.; Athanázio,João Carlos.
